IRS Provides Filing Extension for Returns Affected by Wolters Kluwer Outage

The IRS has approved a filing extension for certain federal returns due May 15, 2019, affected by outage of Wolters Kluwer’s Electronic Filing System (ELF) during the week of May 6, 2019.

The federal filing deadline has been extended an additional 7 days to May 22, 2019, for the following federal returns:

  • Form 990, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax
  • Form 1065, U.S. Return of Partnership Income
  • Form 1120, U.S. Corporation Income Tax Return

IRS Will Provide Filing Instructions

The IRS will provide simple and specific instructions that return preparers must follow for any of these returns that are filed after May 15, 2019, but not later than May 22, 2019. Those instructions will be provided separately sometime during the week of May 13, 2019.

State Tax Agency Tax Filings

Wolters Kluwer is actively working with State tax agencies to obtain similar relief from any filing deadlines. Updates will be provided to return preparers as new information becomes available.
