Beginning with tax year 2018, Michigan allows electronic filing of fiduciary income tax returns. However, Michigan will not accept electronic payments of fiduciary income tax for tax year 2018.
Fiduciary Income Tax e-file Payment Voucher
Fiduciary taxpayers must mail Form MI-1041-V, Fiduciary Income Tax e-file Payment Voucher, with payment of the tax shown on their e-filed returns. They should mail one check for each return. The Department of Treasury cannot process Form MI-1041-V payments designated for multiple returns and paid with a single check.
Excess Business Loss
Also new for tax year 2018, estates or trusts with a federal excess business loss limitation must file Form MI-461, Excess Business Loss. The form will determine:
– the Michigan portion of federal business income or loss included in adjusted gross income; and
– the possible Michigan portion of the excess business loss that is a Michigan net operating loss in the following tax year.
