Texas Governor Proposes Property Tax Reform

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has proposed amending the state’s tax code in order to enact property tax reform. The proposal came in the governor’s State of the State Address.

Property Tax Reform Proposals

In his address, the Governor specifically proposed three areas for reform:

– limiting the ability of taxing authorities to raise property taxes;

– ending unfunded mandates on cities and counties; and

– giving taxpayers the ability to fire their property tax appraiser.
