Ohio Takes Cryptocurrency for Tax Payments

With the introduction of OhioCrypto.com, Ohio has become the first state to allow payment of taxes with cryptocurrency. The webpage is a portal for paying Ohio taxes with Bitcoin.

Cryptocurrency Payments

Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency currently accepted at OhioCrypto.com. Payments are made on a blockchain and can be tracked in real time. Transfers to third parties require user initiation.

Twenty-three taxes are eligible for payment on OhioCrypto.com, including:

  • commercial activity tax (CAT);
  • sales tax;
  • withholding tax; and
  • public utilities tax.

Other methods of payment include ACH credit, ACH debit, check and money order.
