Michigan Proposal Legalizing, Taxing Recreational Marihuana Sales Approved

A Michigan ballot initiative (Proposal 18-1) that proposed to legalize the sale of recreational marihuana and subject it to taxation, has been passed.

Proposal 18-1

The proposal would allows persons 21 years and older to purchase and possess marihuana for personal consumption. An excise tax of 10% would apply to retail sales of marihuana and edibles. No effective date is specified in the proposal. The uncertified election results can be viewed on the Secretary of State’s website at https://mielections.us/election/results/2018GEN_CENR.html.
