The California State Board of Equalization (BOE) has issued a news release stating that taxpayers with property damaged by the recent fires and erosion may be eligible for property tax relief. To qualify for the relief, taxpayers must file a claim with their county assessor’s office within 12 months from the date of damage or destruction and the loss estimate must be at least $10,000 of the current market value of the property. Owners of eligible property may also apply for deferral of the next property tax installment on the regular secured roll or tax payments on the supplemental roll, without penalties or interest.
