From June 11 to June 14, accountants from all over the country converged on Las Vegas for the annual AICPA ENGAGE gathering. Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting was there, but don’t worry if you couldn’t make it. Here’s some of the exciting news you might have missed.
Integrated Audit Approach
Several new audit technologies made their debuts at AICPA ENGAGE. Among them, the first integrated PBC (Provided by Client) list, Engagement Organizer will be available as part of the August release of CCH ProSystem fx Engagement. Engagement customers that use CCH Axcess Portal can use Engagement Organizer at no extra charge.
In addition, the press release announced the launch of CCH Axcess Financial Prep, which will be available this fall. This solution is expected to streamline business tax returns. In fact, according to the announcement, “As a new CCH Axcess module, users upload client trial balance data into CCH Axcess Financial Prep, and the solution automatically groups the accounts and assigns the tax codes respectively. Users can then make adjustments and send balances to the business tax return in CCH Axcess Tax.”
Another exciting new technology launched at AICPA ENGAGE is CCH Axcess Data Insights. Data Insights is a business intelligence tool that creates dashboards with data visualizations from the data in CCH Axcess. Of course, Data Insights doesn’t just help firms understand their data better. It also helps them take action to improve their operations based on the intelligence created.
“Visual dashboards represent technology for the real-world. With data visualization, trends are easy to identify,” said Jason Marx, CEO, Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting, North America. “Static reports show a picture of the past. Visual dashboards provide insights for future action.”
Voice Enabled Search
Lastly, new voice-enabled search functionality for CCH AnswerConnect promises to make accountants even more productive. According to the press release, “CCH AnswerConnect customers operating on Microsoft for Windows 10, can activate the Cortana voice assistant to verbally ask CCH AnswerConnect Tax Assistant a federal tax question and Cortana will either read the answer back or automatically run a search to retrieve the best matches to the question.” This new technology helps accountants get the answers they need without interrupting their work.
Most Powerful Women in Accounting
Then, on June 13, the AICPA in conjunction with CPA Practice Advisor announced their picks for this year’s Most Powerful Women in Accounting. Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting CEO Karen Abramson was included on the list for the 5th year in a row. The selection was made by an independent panel of 13 judges, and the winners were announced during a special ceremony at the event. According to the CPA Practice Advisor, “these professionals are directly engaged in day-to-day client service as a partner or senior member of an accounting practice, or impact the profession through their roles in consulting, technology, organizational leadership, education or other fields.” Congratulations to all 25 women recognized for this well-deserved honor!

Lunch and Learns
In addition to the exciting new technology announcements, Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting also hosted two informative lunch and learn sessions. The first session featured a lively discussion between Wolters Kluwer Strategic Relations Manager Brian Siet and Managing Partner of MiddletonRaines+Zapata, Wesley Middleton. Middleton’s book “Violent Leadership” is an inspiring resource for leaders who want to grow their firms with purpose and passion.

Then, the second lunch and learn session featured Wolters Kluwer Vice President of Platform Strategy John Barnes. He gave firms a sneak peak at CCH Axcess iQ, a new predictive intelligence tool that promises to transform how firms serve their clients.
Of course, in the exhibit hall, attendees stopped by the Wolters Kluwer booth to learn more about the latest technology. While sneak previews of CCH Axcess iQ and CCH Axcess Data Insights attracted buzz, the free giveaway didn’t hurt either.
