Louisiana Governor Proposes Tax Cuts, Elimination of Deductions

In his opening remarks for the 2018 Second Special Session, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards proposed the following tax changes:

– cutting the current sales tax rate;

– reducing the number of sales tax exemptions, but keeping exemptions for groceries, pharmaceuticals and utilities;

– eliminating the personal income tax deduction for state taxes paid; and

– removing the expiration date for reduced tax credits, deductions, and rebates.
