Rhode Island Grants Winter Storm Extension

Taxpayers that could not file Form RI-7004 by March 15 because of the recent snowstorms can file by March 20, 2018.

Extension for Form RI-7004 and Other Forms

Form RI-7004 is used by corporations and pass-through entities to request a filing extension for Rhode Island income tax returns. Form RI-7004 was due on March 15, 2018, from pass-through entities that file Form RI-1120S or RI-1065.

The relief is also available for:

  • Form RI-4868C, Composite Income Tax Return Extension Payment and
  • Form RI-4868PT, Pass-through Withholding Extension Payment.

Filing for Additional Extension

To obtain the extension to March 20, a pass-through entity must submit a:

  • letter requesting relief from the Form RI-7004 deadline, citing the recent snowstorms;
  • completed Form RI-7004; and
  • check for any payment due.

The items listed above must be mailed to the Rhode Island Division of Taxation, Tax Assessment and Review Section, One Capitol Hill, Providence, RI 02908.

The packet must be postmarked by March 20, 2018.

Taxpayers that pay online will not have to file Form RI-7004. However, they will still have to mail a letter requesting relief by March 20.

If the letter is postmarked by March 20, 2018, relief from the March 15 deadline is automatic if the payment/filing is also made by March 20.
