Quick Tips: 15-Minute Data Security Boost

Data security is a top concern for accountants, especially during tax season. Start your new year off with a renewed focus on security. These two simple tasks can help keep your clients and firm safe, and they only take a few minutes.

Change your password

Take a minute to change your password. The IRS recommends changing passwords every 60-90 days. Use a strong password that contains a combination of upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers and special characters. Passwords should be at least eight characters long. And you should not use the same password for multiple websites or systems. Learn more about IRS security requirements.

Enable multi-factor authentication

Your password is a single factor in the authentication process that verifies a users’ identity. Multi-factor authentication requires a second factor in addition to the password as part of the authentication process. This requirement adds another layer of protection against hacking and fraud attempts. If a criminal hacks through your password layer, he’ll still need your phone or access to your email account to get into your CCH Axcess™ account. Find out how to enable multi-factor authentication for CCH Axcess Portal and CCH Client Axcess.
