Idaho Grants Extensions to California Wildfire Victims

Idaho extends tax filing and payment deadlines for Utah taxpayers in California affected by recent wildfires. Taxpayers from designated disaster areas have until January 31, 2018, to mail any completed tax returns along with payments due from October 8 through January 31.

Idaho grants relief for all tax types, including:

  • income tax;
  • sales tax;
  • fuels tax; and
  • income tax withholding.

The extension applies both to individuals and businesses:

  • in the disaster areas; or
  • who have tax records located there.

Qualifying for an Extension

To qualify for the extension, affected taxpayers should write “CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES” in red ink at the top of their tax return. Taxpayers should call the Tax Commission at (800) 972-7660 if they:

  • file electronically;
  • receive penalties; or
  • are charged interest for filing returns or paying taxes late.
