Minnesota Updates Returns Due to Recent IRC Conformity Law

The Minnesota Department of Revenue has updated personal income tax returns  to conform to the federal code for tax years 2015 and 2016. Recently enacted legislation required conforming Minnesota law to the federal code in several areas.

Taxpayers who have not heard from the department, but believe that their 2015 return was affected by federal conformity, should review their personal income tax return. Additionally, a return may also have been affected if there is an amount entered on line 14 or 38 of Schedule M1M, Income Additions and Subtractions .

All necessary changes for federal conformity were made to 2016 income tax forms and instructions before the filing season opened. As such, no adjustments to these returns are needed.
