Texas has extended the suspension of the collection of state and local hotel or motel occupancy taxes for Hurricane Harvey victims and relief-effort personnel through October 23, 2017. Gov. Abbott’s previous suspension lasted from September 7 through September 22, 2017.
To certify that they qualify, victims and relief workers should:
- complete a Form 12-302, Texas Hotel Occupancy Tax Exemption Certificate;
- check the “Exempt by Other Federal or State Law” box;
- write “Hurricane Harvey” anywhere on the form; and
- submit it to the hotel at check-in or during their stay.
Other tax relief measures for victims and relief workers are listed on the Comptroller’s website at https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/resources/disaster-relief.php.
