Virginia Announces Tax Amnesty

Virginia’s tax amnesty program runs from September 13 through November 14, 2017. Under the program, taxpayers who pay taxes on bills and delinquent tax returns will be liable for only one-half of the interest due.

To take advantage of the amnesty, taxpayers must:

  • pay 100% of the tax due for a delinquent tax period; and
  • file required returns within the tax amnesty period.

In addition, taxpayers can still benefit from the program even if they can’t pay the tax due for all bills or delinquent returns. They can get amnesty by paying the total amount due for as many bills or delinquent returns they can afford.

Finally, Virginia Tax sent letters to taxpayers that state which bills and delinquent tax returns qualify for amnesty. However, if taxpayers did not receive a letter, they may still qualify for amnesty.
