California Extends More Payroll Tax Deadlines

California extends payroll tax deadlines in more counties for employers affected by wildfires.

60-Day Extension Request

Employers may request up to a 60-day extension of time to:

  • file their state payroll reports and/or
  • deposit state payroll taxes without penalty or interest.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) must receive written requests for extension within 60 days from the original date of the return or payment.

Eligible Employers

Payroll tax deadlines are extended for employers in:

  • Madera County;
  • Mariposa County; and
  • Tulare County.

In addition, the employer must have been directly affected by:

  • the Railroad and Pier fires which began on August 29, 2017, or
  • the Mission and Peak fires which began on September 3, 2017.

Employers in other affected counties may also be eligible.

Details are available on the EDD’s website at http://www.edd.ca.gov/Payroll_Taxes/Emergency_and_Disaster_Assistance_for_Employers.htm
