Texas Extends Hotel Tax Relief

Texas extends hotel tax relief for taxpayers affected by Hurricane Harvey and relief workers through September 22, 2017.

The suspension applies to state and local hotel or motel occupancy taxes.

Victims and relief workers can get hotel tax relief by:

  • completing Form 12-302, Texas Hotel Occupancy Tax Exemption Certificate;
  • checking the “Exempt by Other Federal or State Law” box on the form;
  • write “Hurricane Harvey” anywhere on the form; and
  • submit the form to the hotel at check-in or during their stay.

The original suspension lasted from August 23–September 6, 2017.

Other tax relief measures for Hurricane Harvey victims and relief workers are listed on the Comptroller’s website at https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/resources/disaster-relief.php.
