California Extends Payroll Tax Deadlines Due to Wildfires

California offers to extend payroll tax deadlines for employers affected by several wildfires.

Counties Affected

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) will extend deadlines for employers in:

  • Los Angeles County;
  • Butte County; and
  • Trinity County.

Eligible Employers

Employers are eligible for an extension if they were affected by the wildfires that began on:

    • September 1, 2017;
    • August 29, 2017; or
    • August 30, 2017.

60-Day Extension Request

Employers may request up to a 60-day extension of time to:

  • file their state payroll reports; and/or
  • deposit state payroll taxes.

Written requests for extension must be received within 60 days from the original date of the return or payment.
