Louisiana ~ Tobacco Tax: Governor Vetoes Renewal of a Portion of the Cigarette Tax

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal vetoed H.B. 591, which would have renewed a portion of the state cigarette tax. The bill would have permanently extended the four-cent-per-pack levy on cigarettes that is slated to expire on July 1, 2012. In his veto message, Gov. Jindal said, “I have made a commitment to the taxpayers of Louisiana to oppose all attempts to raise taxes.”
